We started up the 5 freeway out of Orange County for parts north and for those that tow a trailer if you don't have a great hitch, get a Equal-i-zer it was great did not even notice a simi passing me at all on the freeway. It took about 4 and 1/2 hours to get to Three Rivers with a stop for breakfast and a fruit stand. The campground was very good. We got settled in at a nice shaded spot and set up. As the wife was tired (funny I did all the driving) she took a nap and I explored the campground to find the pool, river and nice people. When she got up we took a dip in the river, it was cold but we got used to it. It was not very deep but flowing very well. Later as the DW was setting up for dinner I tried to set up the dish for TV and found I forgot the clickers again, darn it! We did have DVD's so that was our entertainment for the night and we also found out about lawn flees, like misquotes but they stay around your ankles and darn we both have lots of bits and did not get to the deet soon enough. Come morning I fix breakfast, how does maple bacon, home fried potatoes with sweet potatoes mixed in with bell peppers and onion sound and with scrambled eggs?
After hanging out some we took off to see what was around and found a small town center, don't blink or you will miss it. We found a road, you know the kind the one less traveled. So up we go into the hills and found our selves on this road that is really one lane and the kind if you meet someone else one of you has to back up to let the other pass. Well with a top speed of 15 mph and about 20 minutes under my belt I meet another car then another then 2 more, darn a traffic jam. We traveled only about 22 miles but it took 3 hours with all the winding roads and backing up for others. At the end we found Silver City, not a city but a hotel a very rustic hotel and as I am on blood thinners I was getting light headed as we were now up about 7000 ft. With a short rest we were off again down hill now going about 20 mph and made the trip down in about 1 1/2 hours. With lots of wow's at the over the edge views below.
With that road trip over we relaxed with a swim and a nice dinner and a movie again.
Next day we were off to Kernville near Lake Isabella, back down to the 99 over to the 178, let me tell you that was not a nice ride with its windy roads and rock out crop-pings, I thought my trailer was going to catch one for sure, but no. Got to Kernville and it had an even smaller town. I almost blinked and missed it and it was hot I mean at 4pm it was still over 100 so we found our spot and only one of three that had hook ups and first thing we did was get on that AC. We had planned to stay there 2 days but with that heat and little to do but stay in the trailer we made the one night and left for home the next day.
Our trip home was uneventful and that was good. So if you are in the southern part of central CA ck out Three Rivers, but unless its fall or spring stay away from Kernville.
