Question for those that have been to Yellowstone

For those that have been to Yellowstone NP, I have a question for you about bears. I have a TT and want to know in your trips have you had any problems with Bears? I am planning a trip for this coming summer and I know if a bear wants in my TT will not stop them so what have you done? Are the campgrounds outside the park any safer? I would plan to cook out side but smells do linger so I wonder what to do or plan for. Any help or ideas would be nice.

We woke up to having the buffalo raoming our camp site, no bears though...

Better safe then sorry.. Fact is there are more than just bears to sweat in Yellowstone. Stow all food and smell goods away from camp as well as cook and clean away from camp. I may be a pain to do this but it's better than having a late night visit.. I live in Idaho Falls and am a frequent visitor to Yellowstone, you are well advised to know that your TT will be nothing more than a distraction. Try asking a ranger about bear or wildlife activity around your chosen camp ground. Bear BAG and bear bins are the best defense against them. Good luck and if your up for a short drive try Jenny's lake as a stop on your trip.

Camped there about 5 years ago in a hard sided TT and had no problems. It's not like the "good old days" when the bears roamed the roads looking for food. Most of the camp sites even allow tents and tent campers. If I remember correctly, Fishing Bridge camp was the only one that required a "hard sided" camper (not pop-ups) and I believe that had to do more with the griz migration route near the camp ground (I don't remember if it was a spring or fall migration). We cooked both inside and out and had no problems. In fact we never did see a bear in the two trips that we took to the park (not even a black bear). Got to tell you, that is one of the most incredable places in the world, you'll love it! Be carefull driving at night ... elk, moose, and bison wonder the roads and there are not street lights so you got to keep on your toes. And the park is HUGE !!!

hard sides, that I know a bear could come in any time he wanted.

Is it a tent trailer with soft sides, or a travel trailer with hard sides?
