It can get very cold at night. Once my two gallon jug of water froze solid overnight.

i was under the impression that they don't. also any suggestions on the weather, gear i should have, etc?

I don't think they even take reservations this time of year, do they?

Not necessarily, but if you get there early in the day before noon, you shouldn't have a problem. I also like White Tank or Belle. Please remember there is no running water and only pit toilets. If you need a campground with regular bathrooms, then Cottonwood in the southern end is nice.

well i'm figuring that the day after xmas should be pretty crowd free, so let's say reservations and crowding isn't a problem, then which would you say?

Hi, I have gone to Joshua Tree many times. The easiest is Jumbo Rocks because you don't need a reservation and there are plenty of sites to choose from.

Ask the people in the California group -- some of them have been there before and can give you some advice on where to stay. I can't offhand remember the names of the campgrounds.
