Just got back from the Ocean last night from our annual seafood feast at Grayland Beach SP and Westport. We had a great time. My Aunt and Uncle loved the Yurt, they found that the futon was more comfortable than the bunk beds. My Mom and Step Dad had a great site right next to the Yurt site where they could hook up their RV and we pitched our tent in the Yurt site. We stayed in sites Y87 and 88. We had great calm weather on Tuesday, Wednesday morning it rained, we ate breakfast inside the yurt. By mid-afternoon the sun came out and all was great again. My sister joined us and bunked in the yurt for 2 nights. Thursday we woke up to completely clear blue sky. The weather was as good as it gets. Staying at the Ocean is unpredictable weather wise, you take what you get and you usually get all kinds of weather. We had clear star filled skies at night, that is a treat. We had no wind on the beach, that is also a treat and rare. The moonlight on the beach was amazing. My Mom, Aunt and Chris took Tequila shots and had a blast. I don't drink and neither does my Uncle, we watched and just shook our heads and laughed with them, and at them.
We walked down to the beach at Midnight with the moonlight, played in the surf, beach combed, sat around the fire and told stories, went down to the docks to get our seafood and out to Brady's to get Kumamoto oysters to BBQ. Our first night we ate steamer clams, salad and fruit. Our second night we had Kumamotos BBQ'd and fresh tuna that we grilled and sauteed in butter and garlic along with corn on the cob, salad and fruit. Our third night we had a huge batch of dungeness crab that we got live from the docks, BBQ'd prawns and the Kumamotos again along with corn on the cob and salad. Needless to say, we didn't go hungry and we had all the seafood we could eat. I've got some food network pictures to post so look for those on my site.
My favorite was the tuna and the kumamoto oysters. They were so good. The tuna was whole and fresh and cut up for us right off the boat and we got 4 huge loins off of the tuna. We grilled it with two kinds of Old Bay seasonings and we sauteed a batch of it too. Each bite was amazing and we all were making yummy noises as we ate it. The Kumamotos went on the little smokey BBQ and when they popped open we put butter and garlic and fresh parmesan cheese on half of them and BBQ sauce on the other half.
So, what a great weekend, family - great food - good weather - lots and lots of fun.
