btw-btw..LOL..also I can mix and match my buckets this way too. I can put one pouch of rice, one pouch or beans, etc and create "meals" within the bucket. This way I don't have to open 4 or 5 buckets to get each of these for one meal.…
Btw....I don't bulk pack in 5 gallon buckets per se. Some people like to use the large mylar to line the buckets but i think this is crazy. A 5 gallon buck will easily hold 25 lbs of wheat. If you cut open the mylar, then you have to use 25 lbs…
@check with local restaurants, bakeries, etc. They get things such as pickles, peppers or in the case of bakery, icing in them. My nephew who lives with me gets me 5 gallon buckets, as many as I want. I buy lids at Home Depot. I think I pay like…
Just back from the LDS cannery...picked up another 75 lbs of white wheat, 60 lbs goes to storage, 15 lbs for current use. Oh, and another dozen mylar bags..I always enjoy going there.
@Sandra..trust me, I know I am on a TIGHT budget, but as the Mormons at the cannery pointed out, what good is storing wheat if you can't use it. So at Christmas when my mother asked me what I wanted, I asked for the hand mill..the Victorio runs…
Sandra, I have only been at this since Oct '10, about 9 months now..I actually began after stumbling across the LDS Provident Living webpage while searching for sources of dehydrated eggs to use on camping trips. Their reasons for why one…
I have my first solar power experiment up and running finally. Its only the 45 watt system sold by Harbor Freight, but its my first stepping stone to learn about using solar power. I have it set up with a decent marine deep cycle battery and so far…
Ok, I just got my grain mill attachment for my kitchenaid (yes, I already have a hand crank grain mill) so I am ready to bake me some more wheat bread!! Also got a foodsaver wide-mouth jar sealer so I can store items I use more frequently in mason…
I guess what turns me off to some of this is that some of these prepper sites are extremists and act like the whole country is DEFINITELY going to collapse...Again, I do believe in being prepared....as far as rising prices, when I started preparing…
btw...was in Walmart the other day (don't bless me out for that) and found Mountain House freeze dried meals in the large 2-serving bags on clearance for $3 each...Chili Mac and the Spaghetti and meat sauce..bought all they had, about 15…
I still waver on how "concerned" I should be with a "SHTF" scenario that many people or "preppers" talk about these days, i.e. total economic collapse, lawlessness, etc...However I do strongly believe in preparing for…
