We just returned from July 4th weekend at Moonshine Creek Campground in Balsam, NC. They have a small stream running through the middle. It is a small campground but shady and very friendly. Large RVs have a right squeeze. It was $40/night. Tent…
We had a great July 4th weekend in Western NC. The weather was just perfect. Camped near Balsam, NC at Moonshine Creek campground. It is small and the sites are tight, but the strean running through the middle makes for great sleeping. If anyone has…
We have had some great weather here in the last few weeks. Took advantage of King Mtn State Park at the end of March. This past weekend, coordinated a group and spent time at Chester State Park. It is only about a 45 mins drive for us. It was a fabulous time with friends and the great outdoors.See More

This was our first visit to Table Rock State Park. It is beautiful. We have the best of both worlds here- close to the mountains and close to the beach.
I know this is SC, but it looks like some country I've seen in upstate NY kinda. From all the pix I'm seeing and from what I'm hearing, SC must be a beautiful state.

colleton is small but peaceful, right on the edisto river. after sundown the only light in the place is what campers brought with them. the campsites are pretty large but there is only about 30.
poinsette state park is nice and quiet, made for relaxing as there isn't much to do at the park but that's good sometimes.
hickory knob state park is beautiful. most of the campsites on the lake side are positioned on a finger of land that juts out of the woods to get an unobstructed lake view. the restrooms are nice but a long walk from some of the sites.

I am married with a 7 yr old daughter. My family is new to the camping scene. We went on our first trip to Hunting Island STate Park outside of Beaufort, SC three years ago on a church retreat. It was camping made easy- one of the families that organized the trip does ALL the food prep for the entire weekend. We end Sunday with church services on the beach. I was hooked. We signed back up for the second year and realized if we were going to jump in, we would not do it long in a tent. So we bought a used pop-up and love it. Last year we reserved a spot near the beach at Hunting Island. My 7 yr old daughter woke up early to see the sun rising over the ocean and commented "isn't God great". That confirmed this is the life. While i am not an outdoorsy kind of girl, I love the peace and fellowship of camping. Our camping buddies got themselves a pop-up weeks ago, so we are all committed to more camping!
The Tech Blanket from Thermarest is a great piece of gear when it comes to hammock camping. The system was meant for the ground but it works great in a hammo...
