Don't you just love this?  Out in nature reading a book ... not sitting on a couch playing video games.

That sounds very cool!  Sounds like they allow you more flexibility when hiking.  How long have you been hiking with Llamas?  Do you take them camping or backpacking?

Christopher, Many people do a through hike on the PCT, and it is my dream to do the same.  I'm in the process of beginning to train for just this.  It's the perfect timing take on such an adventure; however, my husband and I are…

Laurene, They did test a bit.  They had not been on the trail all winter long, and the friends you see in the video brought them to us that May.  The white and gray one, Sassy, had some prior experience on the trail so kind of knew what to…

FAMILY VACATION: LAKE WENATCHEE and the GLACIER PEAK WILDERNESS

Posted on August 10, 2010 at 10:06pm 2 Comments

http://wwwbrendaswildernessadventures.blogspot.com/

We just spent eight days back at Lake Wenatchee as our plan B, since plan A became a big disappointment. However, we enjoyed ourselves immensely and became more familiar with the area, especially the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Thunderstorms and rain came almost every afternoon, but for the most part the weather was decent. We hiked 27 miles over a three day…

LLAMA FOUND

Posted on August 8, 2010 at 9:23pm 0 Comments

Just returned from an eight day vacation during which time we received news about the lost llama about which I posted a search party needed; she was found! After seven days and fear of finding her dead, perhaps by cougars, possibly bears, she was found in great condition. She did gulp down 4 gallons of water as soon as they caught her, but other than that, packs and gear still attached and she looked healthy and well. It was like finding a needle in a haystack, but knowing the vicinity in which… Continue

LOST LLAMA

Posted on July 30, 2010 at 10:39am 0 Comments

If anyone is interested at all in helping find a lost llama in the Mt. Hood Wilderness in Oregon please contact me asap here on campers index. I'll be checking back frequently today and tomorrow for any enthusiasts. I'll put you into contact with our friend who will be up near Barlow Pass trail this weekend and needs all the help he can get for a search party. Llamas make excellent pack animals, better than horses, and this one was exceptional. She has packs on her with a lot of gear. She will… Continue

TIPS on REMOVING POISON OAK from BOOTS?

Posted on July 29, 2010 at 12:57pm 1 Comment

Anyone have suggestions for cleaning posion oak off of gear, especially workboots? My son went to a Northwest Youth Corps program and ended up with poison oak on his boots and clothing. They showed him how to take every precaution not to get it on his skin, and I've cleaned all his clothing, but not sure how to clean boots. Can't really put them in washer, lol, so need to find another suggestion.

SEARCH PARTY NEEDED

Posted on July 25, 2010 at 11:38pm 1 Comment

This will be reposted in Oregon Parks, but if you live in Oregon within an hour and a half or two of the Mt. Hood Wilderness, good friends of ours went on a llama pack trip this past weekend and one of their llamas ended up getting loose and is now lost. They searched for her, but did not find her. They will be conducting a search party for her this coming weekend and could use all the help they could get. She ran off with a pack attached to her with all kinds of gear and equipment, not an easy… Continue

Hi!  I started a group for people interested in hiking the PCT - so far I'm the only member!  Come join me & anyone else you know who is interested in the PCT. :)

Wow, Brenda!  That's exciting news, that you are preparing for the PCT!  Offhand, I can think of a few people that are or could get into good enough shape for such a journey and might really be interested in going - Talo Pinto, Russ Barber, Eric W. Heauser, and possibly Diane RN.  You might even want to announce it to the California and/or Backpacking group.

As for myself, I would absolutely LOVE to go, but alas, a couple of bad knees & back stand in the way of me making such an ambitious trip.  However, I will support you in whatever way I can.  Gosh, just dreaming about such a trip must be fun.  I think half the fun in any trip is the preparation, anyway.

Please take us along mentally on your trip and the preps for it.  Comment ever so often in the California and Backpacking groups as to what you're doing to prepare, etc.

We have a Grand Canyon and Appalachian Backpacking group, and you've given me the idea to start a PCT group - so please join!

I'm so very glad you are still around!

Brenda - you still around?  I miss you here!  Any camping plans for the holidays?  Me, just staying at home, but I'm starting to think about where my first camping trip of the 2011 will be.  Do you have any camping plans for 2011 yourself?

Oh gosh, Brenda, don't be sorry! I was only kidding about the work! I enjoy doing this so much it's like play for me ... especially when I get to peek into a backpack trip such as you took. :) I think it's so cool you're taking your kids, esp at their young ages. That is going to have such an impact on their lives, unlike just about anything else. You're the only person I know of who takes their young ones backpacking with them... I hope it inspires others to do the same.
