Hey there!!
My fam and I will be doing a cross state camping trec at the end of the month and I had concerns over our Forks/Bogachiel campground plans. There are two places available to camp at that I've found outside of Forks, Bogachiel being the only with shower, however, you cannot make reservations at either. Is anyone familier with the location and weather or not I should fret? It will be a Tues and Wed so I'm hoping that it wont.

From what I've heard mid-week should be okay. I've never actually stayed there though. Hubby & I would really love to camp on the penninsula, but there is a restriction on taking dogs because of cougar activity & we really can't see leaving them behind :(
Allie, I have been over there a number of times and as far as location its ok. Its right off Hwy 101, its wooded and there are some nice little trails. There are alot of Private campgrounds open to the public on the Olympic Peninsula that are reservable. Check out this website www.rv-clubs.us and put in Washington and it will pull up a bunch of the private parks.
Thanks Lydia!!! If you've been there a number of times, is there anything around as far as attractions that you'd recommend?

Allie, first off, the only place you cannot take your dogs on the peninsula is Olympic National Park and you can see where the boundries are online. We left ours home once and went to all the places they were not allowed. So if you leave them at home, I recommend if you like hiking, The Spruce Rail Road Trail on Cresent Lake and The 8.7 mile hike at Cape Alava by Lake Ozette. Theres a little campground right there called Lost Resort at Lake Ozette. Yep, cougar, deer, elk and we did have a run in with a momma bear and her cub. But we were there in March so thats when the cubs are out with mom. But beautiful hike and a real must do at least once. If you bring the dogs go to Clallam County Parks and Rec online and we like the Dungeness Rec Area (dogs not allowed on the Spit) Salt Creek Rec Area has a really nice campground and the beach is not far. Another place we like is Lake Quinault. Theres a campground there at the lodge www.rainforestresort.com you can check it out. Not fancy, back in camping, showers but theres the lake with beach area and up by the lodge there are hiking trails that do allow dogs and I will give you the info on the trails too. another place you can check but they dont take reservations is the Hoh Rainforest Visitors Center. Theres a huge campground there and you can have the dogs but you cant take them on any of the trails. The campground is really big and just walked ours thru the loops. No hookups but they do have bathrooms with no showers.
so for hiking trails on the Peninsula go to www.fs.fed.us/r6/olympic---on the right hand side of the screen a little ways down scroll to Sites and Opportunities then click on Trails----and under trail list the ones that allow dogs are Wynoochee Lake Shore #878, Tunnel Creek Trail #841, The Brothers Trail #821, Spider Lake #879, Slab Camp Trail #838, Silver Lakes Trail #842, Quinault Loop National Recreational Trail #854, Pete's Creek #858, Mt. Zion Trail #836, Mt. Walker #894, just to name a few. so I hope this helps a little. You can also check with Dept of Natural Res. there are a number of campgrounds thru DNR on the Peninsula too.
The Olympic Peninsula is all first come first served, except for Kalaloch. I feel that you will be fine on a Tues/Wed in June. I haven't stayed in Bogachiel yet, but we have driven through it. I say go for it. If you can't stay at Bogacheil, go just a little bit further and stay at Klahowya, it is good, a little small, but good. If that is too far, go out to the Hoh Rain Forest visitor center, that campground is nice and should be big enough to have plenty of spots to choose from.
