Comment by Sandra on May 4, 2011 at 11:45am Warren - what a great experience, to have a bear that close! (And come away without any scratches!)
I, too, have camped alone most of my 40-something years of camping. I'm like you - can't find people who want to camp as much as I do, or when I want to go. So rather than stay home, I get out and go!
You're right - if you wait until others are available and willing to go camping with you, you'll be waiting a long, long time - if indeed it ever happens.
I would've missed SO much if I hadn't gone ahead and camped by myself over these past years. I don't regret a minute of it. But now and then, it's nice to have company. It's a different experience, camping with others, but every bit as enjoyable.
I've met up and camped with other Camper-Share members and had a great time in all instances. It seems we are all pretty much of like mind here on CS, so it's a great place to look for camping companions.
I've found companions in my own state group. Just organize a trip, tell others about it in your state group, and go. It helps to tell them at least a month in advance, because people have kids, family, jobs, etc. that have to be worked around.
If people show up to your campout, cool. If not, well, camping alone can be cool, too. It's been my experience that I see, hear, and feel more of nature when I camp alone.

Comment by Russell Carpenter on January 4, 2011 at 5:20pm Hey Sandra,
It's in North Central Tenn. Close to FT. Campbell on the Kentucky state line.
I heard of a place called Land Between the Lakes. Drove through there and looks like a nice place. I'm living here in Tenn. now and getting to know the area better but meeting someone that knows their way around is much better.
