I know that many of us have gone, are going to, have taken, or are taking our kids to resident camp. In our district the main camp is Camp Fleischmann. We're still Webelos scouts, but they have a week there just for Cubs and Webelos. There are two camps which are three nights, or just about 72 hours. Which for those of you that are aware is the maximum time a Cub scout can be on an overnight type event.

Ours was the end of June (I should have posted this earlier). It was a great time and marks the sixth and final time we'll be going as Cub Scouts. Camp Fleischmann has its own lake which makes it a cool (literally) place to go at the end of a hot sweaty day of hiking to all the various activities around the camp. There is also a great climbing facility for scouts to learn to climb and have fun.

I still remember the first year that my son and I went. He had just graduated from tigers to wolf and this was his first exposure to a scout camp. He was scared to death of heights, but with the support of the other scouts there from ages six to eighteen he was encouraged and helped to overcome that fear. It took him several times but he made a twenty foot climb and honked the horn at the top. This is one of my fondest memories and affirmed what I knew scouts to be. Now he climbs up that wall in seconds without hardly breaking a sweat and he is one of the ones encouraging those not so brave.

Do any of you have memories like that to share, or just fun stories from resident camp?

We visited Camp Fleischman in July 2007. It was a great experience. I especially enjoyed their Mountain Man program. I was able to get to about 50% accuracy throwing "hawks".

As a leader I participated in the Poker shoot with 22 rifles (and won) and the next day walked the Black Powder Range for the Scoutmaster Shoot. The gentlemen that I competed with must have regretted allowing me to go first (since it was single elimination) when I hit all of the required targets. Ah, such is the life of a female scouter.

We also incorporated some geocaching into the activities as there are two caches adjoining the camp. All in all a great camp experience for us as out of area campers.
