NEW BRIGHTON STATE BEACH - Capitola, CA
Recently we camped at New Brighton State Beach near Santa Cruz. The campground is on a bluff overlooking the beach. There are about 10 sites that are considered premium; they are on the edge of the bluff and have ocean views. There are a limited number of sites with water and electric hook-ups, none are near the edge of the bluff. As you can imagine the premium and hook-up sites are the first to go when reservations become available. (You need to make your reservations the day they go on sale for premium or hook-up sites) The beach is nice, but it can get quite cold. There is a path and stairs leading down to the beach located in the 44-111 loop. It's a good idea to layer your clothing and be prepared for warm or cold weather when camping here. Dogs are allowed on the beach as long as they are on a 6 foot lead.

GUALALA RIVER REDWOOD PARK - Gualala, CA
My family enjoys going to Gualala River Redwood Park once a year. It's a great place to camp. The campground is nestled among Redwoods so it's shaded, but the river is completely exposed to the sun and is fit for swimming (clean and not fast moving). Campers also bring kayaks and make their way down the river. There are water and electric hook-ups and a dump station on site. Also, they just changed many of their policies and one is that there is only one RV allowed per site or 2 tents. This is unfortunate since the sites are huge and it's a great place to meet up with friends. We enjoy the river view sites. (We always stay in the river view sites, but we had some friends stay further "in" the park or away from the river and it was clear that the further you got from the river the worse the mosquitos got.)

KOA-SAN FRANCISCO NORTH/PETALUMA

My experience at this KOA has been wonderful!  The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. When we purchased propane the gentleman helping my husband offered to deliver the tank back to our site. We've been here a week without issue. The facilities are clean and the grounds are kept up quite well. The dog walk is fenced in so you can let your dog off leash. There are two playgrounds, a tiny tot playground and "big kids" playground which my children loved! They have a "jumpy pillow" for kids to play on, a petting farm and additional activities for older kids and adults, but we stuck to the "little kid" activities. There are additional facilities and activities such as a Kamp Kitchen, pool and spa which we didn't use because we have a trailer and due to weather swimming wasn't appropriate. The grounds are quite large which makes for nice walks.  Also, they have beautiful peacocks roaming the grounds.
