Hubby and I are going to an Illinois Indians State Rally. This will be our first camp-out since we came back from Arizona. There we stayed at the Mesa Regal Campgrounds in Mesa, Az.

The camping season has started in Vermont, it's still a little chilly but the skys are so clear. Honeygirl and I went to a State Park over Memorial Day Weekend, rain in the am but clear skys in the afternoon. Felt good to be relaxing by the pond with a campfire in the evening....ahhh now this is the life. I mostly stay in Vt as I'm new to this and I'm still learning the ropes. Planning on going to the ocean in Maine for a week, should be quite the journey!!
we are going to williams az this wkend. just outside dogtown lake. cooler weather, and the great outdoors.

Will be going to the Shining Rock Wilderness, NC off the Blue Ridge Parkway (420 mile marker) for my first real vacation in almost 13 years. Have been caring for sick and elderly in family and going to college. Just graduated at 67 years of age. Now going to celebrate by going to a place my late husband and I used to tent camp and hike. Have an old Continental Shell Bed over Cab camper on the back of my RAM. It will be blueberry season and I hope to get some to bring home for the winter. The Rock is white quartz that shines like a mirror when it gets wet. It has lots of hiking trails at different levels: easy, medium or hard walk/climb. The views from the balds are unbelievable. Just be careful if the cloud/fog rolls in; need to tie yourself to the tent to find your way back. Can also find different types of semi-precious gemstones, especially garnets in the granite.
No campground facilities; totally primitive. Park in the parking area at the end of the road, or onto pull-off areas on the side of the road. Unless you really like to do primitive, no need to go there.
Claudette, almost did not make the trip to Shining Rock Wilderness. First thing I did was misplace my cell phone after I got started. When I stopped to top off my gas tank, a kind lady let me call my daughter and let her know about the cell phone. Got to the Wilderness just before dark, walked the dog and then went into the truck camper to get ready for bed. All of a sudden I hear this slurred voice saying, "Thought I recognized this old truck." Turned out it was the drunk that ruined my last trip to the Wilderness. He and his grandson drove me and my grandson nuts! I did not stay but 1 night then and it was the same this trip. I am going to keep trying to camp though. My eldest grandson is going to be married outside of Orlando, FL in October. Hope to do some camping and visit some kin-folk on the way there and back (I live outside of Charlotte, NC)
My youngest grandson and his Scout Troop are camping out the weekend after Labor Day week at Morrow Mountain State Park, NC.
We are off this morning to Michigan and then to Wisconsin, hopefully will see some changing of the leaves.
Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday weekend. Safe travels to all!
My wife and I (maybe the grandson) are going to be at Sam A. Baker campground (near the Bootheel of MO) this weekend. Highs are going to be near 70 and the lows around 35, should be a great time to get out.
Sounds like fun, let us know how you like the campground always looking for new places to go not far from home.
I'm hoping to take off to Alabama for Thanksgiving, big family get together on hubby's side.

Yes we are going to Valley Center and the campground is "Woods Valley Kampgrounds" in So Cal near Escondido.
What's that campground like? It might be a good destination for a California CampersIndex campout.
