Hi all!! Thought I'd start this conversation to meet/greet and see first off who's got what and the fun that goes with it...

I just jumped into the popup world last year in this great economy of ours by aquiring a 1990 Coleman Roanoke with extra holes (thankfully all patched) and no air unless you unzip the windows...pull with a 1999 Ford Expedition. Paid $600 for the popup and have camped three times already, love it...although a bit cramped was well worth it...will attach a pic or two later...
Thanks!!

I'm interested in buying a pop-up some day. What are the pros and cons of owning one? And how do they do in a downpour rainstorm?

we just got a 2000flagstaff and pull it with a 2006 silvarado extra cab. the truck has the small v-8 and the truck doesn't even know the trailer is there. i had a pu years ago and when i got the chance to get this one at a good price i jumped at it. we also have the factory air and when that thing is on we sleep with a blanket. we just got back from hickory knob state park near aiken sc and had to turn the air down to it's lowest setting at night. love that pu. easy to pull and easy to set up (about 20 minutes by myself or less with help) and comfortable even for us old folks. like the man said it sure beats sleeping on the ground. as far as riding out a rainstorm, we have yet to see any water inside it.
our PUP is a 1999 Camplite and it holds up wonderful, we camped at FDR last weekend with the horrible rain and didnt have any leaks :) We went from a travel trailor to a motorhome to the PUP :), Something I could haul around if need to. We dont have a potty or shower inside although we do have a shower outside, it has a slide out and is roomy enough to sleep 7 adults. So far ( knock on wood) It been all good except for a wind storm one night and that scared me, but other than that its all good, we do have a gas furnace and we have camped in 19 dgree weather the gas furnace didnt really do the job would be warm as long as it was blowing but when it clicked off it would get cold fast now we have a back up electric ceramic heater. The Furnace will keep you from freezing to death though :). So easy to pull almost dont know anything is back there, I did pull it with my 2004 6 cyl jeep grand cherokee a couple of times and my husband usually pulls it he drives a 2008 GMC sierra extended cab 8 cyl.Sandra there isnt anything like it, I Say JUST DO IT haha

I started with tent camping, graduated to a nice new 1997 Jayco tent trailer. Loved being off the ground, way more room and definitely a huge advantage in the rain. Loved the openess of it. But I had a house fire in 2002 and burned down the garage and lost it. We contemplated replacing it with a full sized travel trailer, but did not want the enclosed boxed in feel, so we ended up getting a 2002 21' Flagstaff Shamrock. It is a full sized travel trailer with ALL the amenities a travel trailer has-big fridge/freezer, stove, oven, microwave, bathroom, shower-BUT it has the tent pull outs on both ends for the beds, just like a tent trailer has. When the beds are pulled out, my 21' trailer becomes a 27' trailer and none of the space is used up or lost with a separate bedroom like a travel trailer. When all the zippered windows are opened, it is almost like being in a huge tent trailer with the views and open air feeling. The big advantage is arriving at your camp site when it is raining, in a tent trailer you pretty much sit in your vehicle until it stops long enough to hurry and put up. With this trailer, you can park it, and go get inside and wait out the rain inside the trailer. It offers alot more protection against the elements. Drawbacks are it is heavier (4700# loaded) and alot bigger to tow-I use a 2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty, and of course the storage of it, as it is way to tall to put in a garage. I love this trailer and feel it is the perfect blend of a tent trailer/travel trailer in one.
we just bought our pop in May and love it. we've taking it off road no probs with our 05 land rover lr3 we just went to Yosemite in july for a week comfortable all the way. Love our 95 coleman cedar no rips tears or holes

Been through a couple of small storms in our pup. Wind wise pups are forgiving to some extent due to there nature..If you have your pups canopy set up remember TWO things, leave one side slightly lower than the other for drainage...and no matter how pleasant the weather is when you set up ANCHOR your canopy support poles down...do not ask me how I know this...lol

I have a 2002 Starcraft 2407.  Love the camper.  I use 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid to pull it.  We've taken 1 7,000 mile trip around the country and several 1000-2000 mile trips in the western states.

I normally get 26 MPG driving around and that drops to 17-20 MPG towing the trailer which weighs in at about 3100 LBS.  The Highlander is rated at 3500 LBS towing capacity.  I've had no problems with the drive train and I've got about 110,000 miles on it.
