I just started planning a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP's. We're leaving from the SF Bay Area and I'm trying to map a route and I don't want to drive all that way without doing any sightseeing on the way (We're not necessarily taking a direct route. The northwest is up for grabs.) For anyone who has traveled in the northwest...any recommendations on where to stop or what to see? Thank you!

This will be reposted in Oregon Parks, but if you live in Oregon within an hour and a half or two of the Mt. Hood Wilderness, good friends of ours went on a llama pack trip this past weekend and one of their llamas ended up getting loose and is now lost. They searched for her, but did not find her. They will be conducting a search party for her this coming weekend and could use all the help they could get. She ran off with a pack attached to her with all kinds of gear and equipment, not an easy loss financially. She's a great pack animal and one they'd really like to get back. She also recently had a baby and needs to be back with her for nursing. If you are interested at all in being a part of this search party, please let me know here on campers index site and I will immediatly put you into contact with our friends. I know this is not like pulling together a search party for a lost person, but it is still quite a loss. Notices have been placed with the park rangers, and photos of her have been posted at the various Pacific Crest trailheads. You will be in some beautiful country!

I have a "pop-up" or "tent trailer" and camped last summer at Cape Lookout State Park . It was fabulous. the sites are not huge, but the facilities were excellent and the best part was the beautiful beach which was only a short walk over the dunes from our site (C70 and C72). There is also a waterfall hike that was great to do with kids (have to drive to the trail head though). Talk to the Rangers about things to do in the area. The other great thing was the half-day we spent in near by Tillamook. Touring the factory was interesting and fun (not to mention the free ice cream). I would recommend planning to stay at least three nights. We really hated to leave and would camp there again in a heartbeat!

Coastal camping is very nice, Beachside campground, central coast area is a good place if you get a site on the oceanside, that way you would have a little sandy trail off your site to the ocean. Seal Rock site # 25 is best. Honeyman is good if you have ATV's, Its quiet, as people are required to tow all ATV's out to the end of the park before starting them up. open sites but scenic views of the ocean and marina. Explore and have fun!

Hi!
I am trying to plan a camp trip with the pop-up this June and was wondering if anyone had input on the beach camping. It has been a few years since I drove the coast so I am trying to remember. I have heard humbug is good down south. What about mid-coast and north coast. I don't particularly like real touristy areas, but can deal with them for a night or so. Thanks so much! ~Kim

We have camped in many places around Oregon. The Mt. Hood area is very scenic and easily accessible. If towing any type of trailer you need enough horsepower to be able to make it up the Mt.
