Just got back from a four days camping week end with friends.  Went to a quite little city camp ground RV park in Grantsburg, WI.  $25 per night with full hook-ups.  Nice sites...music in the city park every Sat. night.

We are going to Beaver Creek this weekend, then no reservations at state parks until August so hopefully our lawmakers can figure out something by then.  I am jealous about the mid-week camping trips, they are so nice and quiet.  Have fun wherever you decide to go! Hopefully it stops raining!

Dustine, my husband and I were discussing the same thing yesterday. Luckily, we don't have any reservations right now at any of the state parks. I do feel sorry for the families that have reservations over the 4th. But, hopefully, this will get settled before the state shuts down. We were at Interstate a little over a week ago. We had a nice view of the river and the park was only half full so it was very peaceful. We plan on going to another park, camping next week, but I'm not sure which one. It will be in the middle of the week so we shouldn't have too much trouble getting a site.

We went to Interstate State Park a few weekends ago and then to Tettegouche last weekend.  Quite cold and damp at Tettegouche still, a few of the hiking trails are very wet, but we really enjoyed our hike in campsite.  We are wondering about the state shutdown and how long our state parks will be closed :(

My husband and I just returned from a 10-day camping trip to parks and recreation areas in the north and northwest region of MN. Our goal was to hike the Hiking Club Trails and complete the Safari geocaches - we successfully finished 9 parks. I was impressed with Red River and Lake Bronson; I love Itasca. It's such a beautiful park and there's so much to do; Lake Bemidji is similar to Itasca -smaller, but lots of activities (hiking, biking, swimming, boating); an alternative to Itasca.

Sandra, this is what I found out about Split Rock Light house.

Visit the site for daily tours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and see the beacon lit at sunset the first Friday of each month through November. Road construction during the 2010 season may cause significant traffic delays so please plan accordingly. Visit MNDOT for details.

The lighting is just going on this year for the anniversary.

3 mink?! What a treat! I know what you mean about getting grounded again. I have to remember that I need that once in awhile to stay healthy in all senses of the word.

Went hiking early this morning at Interstate on the Wisconsin side. Spent three hours just wandering on and off trail and was treated to 3 mink cavorting among the trees. My camera was busy.
Then on the way home feeling that my need to hike was not quite fulfilled I made a quick stop at William O'Brian for a couple of hours. It was a good day and I now feel grounded again.

Kathy -- could you please list the Split Rock anniversary under "Events" here? Or give me the info and I'd be happy to do it. Thanks.

We have reservations at Gooseberry Falls for Aug. 7 thru the 10th. I can't wait!! I haven't camped there since I was young. My husband and I stopped there one time and I have gone snowshowing there, but I want to camp there again. I tried a couple years ago to get reservations, but they were booked. And the Split rock anniversary is going on so it should be really good. We just got back from camping at Myre-Big Island State Park. That was a nice park. We spent two nights there, there weren't a lot of other campers there so we had run of the park. The Blazing Star Bicycle Trail goes through this campground, I really had wished I had brought my bike with me, but there wasn't room. Oh well, next time.

Thermarest Tech Blanket, Good for Hammock Camping???

The Tech Blanket from Thermarest is a great piece of gear when it comes to hammock camping. The system was meant for the ground but it works great in a hammo...
