My favorite place to camp is Bruin Lake at pinckney state park,Livingston county,Michigan. Great for the kids. Lots of fishing for little perch off the dock. Boat rentals, swimming, volleyball, soccer and other games. Also, guided nature walks and activities. Fees are $24 per site includes electric. The bathrooms and showers are well maintained.Very friendly people! I'll be back a few times a year.
We fully enjoy Brevort Lake, about 20 miles west of the Bridge on US-2. It's a national forest campground with all campsites being waterfront, all campsites being roomy. It's rustic, but there are two buildings with flush toilets and running water. There's a boat launch, and the fishing is excellent. There area also great hiking trails in the area. Fees are$16 (half that with a senior passport) per night. We've stayed there three times and have yet to be disappointed by anything more than a heavy rainstorm one afternoon.
Michigan has a wonderful "dispersed" camping permit that is free to camp anywhere on state forest lands. Major portions of the northern part of the lower peninsula and most of the upper peninsula are all public lands open to camping. Just post the free permit!
