Thanks for the intro & plug, Sandra! Yes, I'm excited to do lots of camping, fishing, and more photography in Idaho. Great state. Been there few times before. I will have to add a few of my Idaho pics here. You are welcome to come up and visit us anytime when I'm settled there, Sandra.

Check out Talo's page to see the kind of photos he does, btw.

I second that Richard!  Talo Pinto is moving from California to Idaho I hear - our loss, your gain.  Maybe some kind of welcome campout?  He is a super great photographer!  He is going to go crazy with all that gorgeous scenery up there.  Now if he can just pack a few of us Californians up and take us with him...

I know there are Lewis & Clark trail spots here and there in Idaho.  For me, I would want to see some of those.

There's Hells Canyon to see near Lewiston, although Idk if it would be along your route.  Also the Hagerman Fossil Beds near Hagerman in south central Idaho.

If you go to http://www.visitidaho.org/mapsimages/maps.aspx there are a number of maps in Idaho you can click on and find things to do.  Good site in general about Idaho.

Thanks for the route information. I was trying to map it out on google, but it wasn't working out well, so I'm getting a map. I figured August would still be busy, but if I don't homeschool my daughter, that'll pretty much be our only option. Where's your restaurant?

August is busy till the week before labor day then after labor day weekend is generally better. That's my experience with traffic through my restaurant.

I think that hwy 1up to coos bay to Astoria then across Oregon through bend Oregon is beautiful. At that point it gets boring until you get on the 95 going north to hwy 55. Through Mccall Idaho south till banks Idaho, then east to Stanley Idaho at that junction you could go north to salmon Idaho and then go south or at Stanley go south on hwy 75. Through sun valley. Either route will get you to the Tetons. As for car camping almost anywhere along the route is possible.

I'm looking at a month for this trip. We may go up I-5, part of the way on 101, then across 90, or across 80 then up. I asked some groups for recommendations on places to "sightsee" and camp. I wanted to wait to see what kind of response I received before committing to a route, though, the more information I get from you the more it makes me think I should be planning for August or September. I'm also leaning toward 101/I-5 to 90. Thank you!
