Isn't it fantastic that we are blessed enough to live where there are so many options, we can all camp how we want? I'm a 'roughin it' kinda girl, but certainly have camped in campgrounds...it's all in what you want from your experience. Happy camping, no matter how you choose to do it!...by the way, any campers from WA state?

They are fairly cheap at Big 5 Sporting Goods. I don't know if there is one near you, but I bought mine there for $79

I'd love to get a night vision thing. It would be amazing to see what the night would reveal.

When using pots, pans or making coffee over an open fire it makes clean up a lot easier if you "soap" your equipment, apply a little dishwashing soap to a paper towel and wipe the underside and sides of equipment, this will keep your equipment looking good and will save you a lot of elbow grease

I don't have a night vision bi or monocular, but I sure would like to get one. It'd be so much fun I'll bet!

I have "head lights" for my self and my kids. We have a red lens setting and this works great to keep the "light pollution" down. Informing kids that the more lights that are on the less you can see the stars is a great idea. If "night vision" devices are available all the better.

It is so true that everyone has a different way of camping, a different way of experiencing the outdoors. When I am in a campground, I try to be as tolerant as possible, knowing that (except for blaring radios and loud voices) everyone camps differently. I’m just glad people are out camping and experiencing the outdoors in whatever way they are comfortable with. For me, though, the less “modern” stuff I have, the more I have learned that I can get close to nature. If I want to camp “my way” without interferences, I’ll go off by myself somewhere and camp primitively.
My one pet peeve, however, is flashlights. I rarely use a flashlight unless I am in my tent looking for something. It takes 30-60 min for me to get my night vision, to get my eyes adjusted, and one person shining a flashlight in my eyes totally undoes that. If someone needs to see “who is that”, I wish they would shine a flashlight at my feet instead.
Children are the worst culprits when it comes to shining flashlights in people’s eyes. Flashlights are one big toy to them, and I understand that. But it can be explained to children that shining a flashlight in someone else’s eyes is poor camping etiquette and why that is.
Better yet, gradually introduce your children into the wonders of the night. I have found that you can actually see more without a flashlight. For example, take the case of the many campers I have unintentionally startled on the trail or road because they cannot see beyond the little circle of light their flashlights create. If they had had no light on, they would have been able to see me far off. It just takes practice.
In the end, campers just all need to practice good camping etiquette, be as tolerant as possible, and gently educate people about what is good camping etiquette if they do not already know what that is.
