How good is good? 3 or 4-season? There are awesome tents for $500, but you can get a decent family tent of that size for around $100 if you look. Try your local Walmart, Target, etc. They are running lots of sales right now. Also, online try Campmor (NJ). They have an excellent stock.

Funny, I was just pointing another person to this tent. I was telling her that my sister who has kids really loves her new tent she got this year. It is really great in the rain too. She bought a tent by Eureka called a Pine Lodge. Here is a link if you need it. http://www.serioussportinggoodscamping.com/index.php?cPath=1_7

Let me know if you have any more questions about it. I can ask my sister.
Go for quality this is something your going to use for a long time dont forget to put a tarp down when setting up Academy has a lot of good deals I have a great 12 person tent a little over kill but you do have enough room plus you can keep extra stuff in side so you may want to think of that when purchasing a tent besides you what else you going to put in it ......... :)
What's a good two-person lightweight tent for backpacking? (That doesn't cost $400).

I just tried out a new 10x10 tent, not very expensive -- but would be very very roomy for two people. You could easily put two cots in there with room to spare. A family of four would also do well in there. And I could stand all the way up in it -- I'm 5'8". For me, the lap of luxury.
I have an old Coleman canvas tent. It is in need of repairs and poles. Are they worth repairing or just get a new one. It is huge ,but nothing like the multi room tents of today.
I would imagine it would cost you more to repair it than to buy a new one, but you would have to check with a canvas repair guy to make sure.
Unless it has some kind of sentimental value, I think I would just get a new one.

It is a tent that my parents purchased used when I was very young. I have alot of memories around it. I will weigh the costs and make a choice.

Eureka make the Timberline which you can buy from Campmor for short money. I have the Timberline "Outfitter" which is the same design with heavier material. I've camped all over the US with it in the 15 years that I've owned it. It doesn't owe me a cent and the extra weight hasn't been a problem yet.
