I have hiked down South Kaibab to Phantam Ranch stayed 3 nights and hiked back up Bright Angel twice now and am doing it again in March 2010. Reservations made one year in advance. The first time I ran and lifted weights and exercised my self into strapping fitness and the trip was a piece of cake. The second time I figured it was easy and that I didn't need to work so hard. Big Mistake. I got pretty sick on the way down not from lack of water or electrolytes, just exhaustion. You can bet that I will be getting in good shape for next March. What fun we have.

Great idea, to start this group -- you should let Russ Barber know about it, because he has definitely hiked the Grand Canyon (see his pictures).

I've never backpacked or even hiked, for that matter, the Grand Canyon but would absolutely love to!
