We camped for the first time in Texas, and Loved it.  We were there for the filming of Americas Favorite Trail Horse.  Check out the Event we have created here on campersindex and mark your calendars for Sept. 20 to watch Zeema and I compete for Americas Favorite Trail Horse, a Trail Horse makes a GREAT Camper! Cheers,Theresa and Zeema

When I lived in NJ I never got that far north.  Wish I would have.  I camped in the Bear Mountain/Harrington Park area quite a bit, plus a lot of places in NJ.  I'm in
California now.  There simply aren't any "woods" out here like there are back East.  I miss them.

Thanks for the info on Watkins Glen State Park!  It's funny how we get attached to an area, isn't it? :)

I have been camping on an off for over 50 yrs.  My parents started us camping back in the late 1950's in a "boy scout" canvas tent, When they stopped camping in the 70's my husband and I began in the early 80's with a tent then pop up trailer and now we are back in our tent.  However having camped in many NY State  Parks our favorite state  park is Watkins Glen. Sites are large, with shade, clean facilities and nice people.  Also there is a beautiful Glen to walk through and many trails to hike plus a very friendly community. So if you are traveling through NY  stop in the finger lakes area and stop in at Watkins Glen state Park.

We just went to Marina Dunes, one of our favorite local places to camp, and found out they're converting it into vacation cottages! They're selling these pre-fab'ed cottages and putting them on the pads. I'm not sure when the transition is going to be complete, but we're bummed nonetheless. We love taking the kids there and going to the beach as well as the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Guess we're going to have to find a new favorite local place to camp.

Any one have any recommendations for an RV site near Banner Elk, NC.?Looking for something in early August that does not cram everyone next to each other.

I'm new to this website, but can hardly wait for the warm months! North of Duluth, MN along Lake Superior shores is a great place to camp, although it's busy. There's great hiking (easy access to the Superior Hiking Trail) kayaking on the lake... it's heaven! I also like the BWCA; lots of lakes for kayaking or fishing.

Davy Crockett National Forest at Ratcliff lake. Rare species of crapie and electric motors ONLY on the water. not big but very quiet.

Time to get those reservations in! There are a great many places to camp in Michigan. My 2 favorite spots are the Rifle River St. Park and Newaygo St. Park. Rifle fills up quick, is very crowded, so we go either early spring or in the fall. Newaygo, is pretty much empty all season. The weekend's fill up, but never is FULL. Both parks are surrounded by water and dense woods. It's quiet, the fishing is good, nothing better thatn that.

I started a group on Living Outdoors Full Time at http://www.campersindex.com/group/livingoutside -- for tenters, RV'ers or whatever. Some of you might be interested in it. If you are actually living in or have ever lived in a tent or RV full time, please join the group.

Thermarest Tech Blanket, Good for Hammock Camping???

The Tech Blanket from Thermarest is a great piece of gear when it comes to hammock camping. The system was meant for the ground but it works great in a hammo...
