I'd be interested in attending... I never turn down a chance to meet new people and get out in nature
always up to camp and meet new people. So when we need to talk about central location and what type of campground (commercial or national) we would all like.
Hello all,
I'm up for it.
Where would be a good, fairly central place to camp, where both tents and RV's could come? Think of trying to accommodate any horsepeople in your group, too, if you can find a campground that basically has it all.
Are Okie's invited. I love the Ouray/Ridgway area! or in the Sangre's by Westcliffe.
Sure -- everyone is invited... where would be a good place to hold it? Suggestions?

In general, I am hearing votes for the Ouray area and also for Rocky Mountain Park. Of these two, which would everyone rather have a first annual Colorado campout?
Are there going to be people with horses that might want to come to this thing?
There's an interactive site showing Colorado campgrounds on a map that is real handy at http://www.allstays.com/Campgrounds/Colorado-campgrounds-xml.htm -- maybe this would help people pick out a campground.
Sounds like fun. Count me in if I can get the time off
We went on a trip over the fourth of July on the Alpine Loop to Ouray....camping spots were sooo difficult to find...we don`t camp in campgrounds very often...we don`t like paying for scraps of ground that are too close together, and everybody is in your business, but if you want to do that, that is what is available....and you better not camp outside of a designated spot, or you WILL be fined.....Ouray is not a good spot unless you want a paid campground experience....if you do that, the Ampitheater campground is nice....if you were going to be more centrally located, that should be in the Buena Vista area.......
Ouray is not limited to pay-only campsites, but they are definitely encouraged by the city as it is a key money maker. When I was there recently I was able to obtain info from some locals eager to share their secrets. When traveling into the Amphitheater campground take the first right up the dirt road and you will find plenty of free spots that are legal for up to 14 days without permit which even after talking to a forest ranger he said that the 14 day rule is not enforced as Durango students often get summer jobs in town and camp there for months at a time. Hiking trails and a creek with epic views are all available at these free sites. This is just one of many spots I found. Message me for more details and I will be glad to oblige. happy Camping!
