At camp, the girls usually have their books and things they bring with them. I actually try to keep them away from camp doing things like hiking, swimming, exploring, so that when they get back they are a bit tired and can play simply. But then, when we are camping/outdoors it is amazing what they can think up to do. We camped last month in Kings Canyon, CA and the kids made houses for animals with wood and pine cones laying around. That entertained them for hours. When I was a kid, we'd play cards, but for some reason we don't... maybe my kids are still too young for that.

We go camping with our Grandson (he's 4) so there isn't a lot to do with him. We have games in our trailer and one trip we take every year is to Morton Wa. About the first weekend in August there is a big Celeabration call The Loggers Jubliee. There is a big parade with Fire trucks and Big Logging truck's (not a lot of political enteries) there is Lawn Mower races and Bed races a little flea and Farmer's Market and Logger games. Our grandson Loves it Not to mention all the candy thay toss during the parade but we give it to the park ranger where we camp and he hands it out to all the kids camping.
Kim, we do pretty much the same thing with our kids. We allow them to play in any kind of water, whether it is swimming in mountain lakes, wading, walking along creek beds, it allows their imaginations to flow and tires them out. We do a lot of hiking and if we camp where they are able to ride their bikes, we will take them with us. We avoid a lot of crowded campgrounds which usually is not conducive to bike riding so they come up with other things to occupy themselves. And when we backpack, we go light so we might take one book for the whole family and I'll read aloud around the campfire. We take collapsible fishing rods so they can fish. They do a lot of exploring. They carve wood with pocket knives. That's what kids do. We play family games like "I Spy," or we'll do a round table form of a story where one person begins the story, talks for so long, and then it goes to the next person to add something to it. We'll even do this kind of thing at home. The other night the kids wanted to sleep in the camper so we set up our chairs outside the camper door, ate dinner out there, and pretended we were camping. It was great fun.
Hi Sandra sorry it's been so long since I've added any comment. I'm not much into typing but here goes. We go to Alley Spring alot been going for years. My sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, kid's & grandkids all enjoy the clear cool water's of the Jack's Fork & Current rivers. It's hard to get the kid's out of the water. Floating, fishing ,swimming it's a beautiful place. Ozark National Scenic Riverways. When we get off the water there are caves to explore & trails to hike. There are stables around Eminence with horses to rent & boarding if you have your own. On the weekends at least one of the campgrounds around the area has some kind of a play for the kids in one of the outdoor amphitheaters. At least one night the kids get to pig out on some Smores, (but not the parents right). In cass no ones herd of em.. roasted marshmellow, plain hershey bar, between two gramcrackers. Our holloween campout for adaults only got flooded out. We had a record rain fall this October in Mo. We go to Meramec state park for this campout it's only about a hour & ahalf from St.Louis We have been doing it for about 15 years. First time thats happened. Sometimes it's to cold for some. All your pictures are great!! Especially the first two -- like picture postcards. Thanks for sharing them with us. Sounds like you had a terrific time. And it sounds like the kids had a blast, too. :)
