Sandra I so agree with you on the eating.. There is to much to do and explore to worry about food... haha

After years decades of camping, eating is kind of secondary to me now. It used to be the main focus it seemed: "What are we going to eat?" (Plus I camp alone a lot.)

Anymore I just make it as easy and quick on myself as possible. Eating just seems like something you have to do so you can get to the meat (pardon the pun) of camping - hiking, exploring, practicing skills, etc.

We have friends that use MRE's for a quick meal. You can find them on the internet. They buy a case at a time as it is cheaper. What a surprise to find them all so tasty and easy.

Thanks for the suggestions. I saw in the cookbook that I have Roughing it Easy by Diane Thomas that she uses a hanging shoebag or lingerie bag with pockets.

Hope that helps some. To tell the truth, I had a moderately expensive camping station and didn't ever use it much. They're OK for transporting stuff, but frankly I just transport my stuff in a plastic tub and put things into zip loc bags as a way of sorting them. I also have smaller tupperware-type containers inside my plastic tub for organizing similar items.

Lisa - You can get a Camping Kitchen to help organize your cooking stuff. At one end of the spectrum is this:

or this ($99.50 at REI):

or a "camping box" like this for $100 from Camp Chef on Amazon.com:

or even this for $141.38 at campingcomfortably.com:

or a more compact (but more expensive) one from domsoutdoor.com for $179.99:

But you can also get something like this (from Campmor for just $17.99):

Mountain House foods are great especially if you are getting to camp late, like the first night. Backpackers Pantry are also pretty good but a bit more of a mess to eat. The freeeze dried food usually goes on sale at REI. Getting hungry!

@Lisa Cato... Lisa the boy scout troops all use what they call a "chuck box" to keep all their kitchen utensils, spices, pots and pans etc in. Most of theirs are home made from plywood and vary widely in design and construction. I have seen some however that are commercially made. Enter "chuck box" in a google search and you can see a lot of info and pictures. They are like mini kitchens with a work surface and places to store a lot of supplies for the camp cook.

Has anyone ever tried Mountain House freeze dried foods? I could not believe how tasty they are! Easy too. Of course I still love to cook outdoor meals over a fire, but for quick easy meal, for those high activity days when your too tired to do all the work, these 2 minute meals really rock!

Thermarest Tech Blanket, Good for Hammock Camping???

The Tech Blanket from Thermarest is a great piece of gear when it comes to hammock camping. The system was meant for the ground but it works great in a hammo...
