Over the years I have had many enjoyable camping trips, with many different friends as well as numerous solo trips.  Many of those trips are still very much a part of campfire stories I share with others whenever we sit around the campfire making smores or soup.  Sadly, I have never written any of them down.  So, I have recently decided to start a Camping Journal.  For the past two weeks I have been back logging the more memorable trips, and there are a number of them.  Like the Summer of Echoing Thunder.  Because I was thinking while I was on my last solo camping trip it would be nice to remember them in my old age.  And when I'm gone I could pass the journal on to my son, who has gone on more camping trips with me than anyone and he is a big part of the more memorable trips.  So, even though I'm in my 50's it is not too late.  I have back logged the ones I can remember, which are a lot, and just wrote and I went on many other normal weekend camping trips.  I am doing a year by year log, with a few other special trips with friends.  Then in the future, I will record my trips (whether local or traveling) and then write them down.  I am keeping a hand written journal as well as putting it into a Word Document and a binder.  I thought I could add pictures to the binder copy.  I have read of stories of people in their 70's doing the AT, so hopefully when I'm in my 70's I'm still recording in my camping journal and re-reading about the many enjoyable trips I've had over my lifetime.  One nice thing about putting it in a Word Document is any family member that wants a copy when I'm gone can have one.  I'm currently writing about our trip to Colorado National Monument and Rocky Mountain National Park in 2003, and hope to be caught up before my son and I take off for Acadia National Park next weekend.  And I'd like to encourage all campers if you don't have a "Camping Journal" it is not too late, and you won't regret it.  So record your campfire stories for memories and future generations.
