Sandra, it depends where you are in the park. In the locations where you see the most tourists/campers, they are trying to repair those areas by roping them off. There are also some popular swimming areas on the river that are not doing so well. Campers are trampling habitats and destroying the eggs of local birds. They can't rope off the entire river. I don't know first hand about some of the more secluded areas.
Hope you have a great time at Red Rock, take pictures!
I'm going to Red Rock Canyon State Park! I'm so excited! This is the perfect time of year for getting out into the desert - Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Anza Borrego... I went to Joshua Tree in late February one year - weather was perfect (though a little windy) - and the ocotillo was in bloom! I want to go back when I have more time to explore there...
Laurene - how badly has the Yosemite riparian area(s) been affected? I always thought it was pretty well taken care of, but then I haven't been to Yosemite in a few years.
I think I'm finally going to get to go to Red Rock Canyon SP later this month... have wanted to for a long time. Has anyone else ever been there? What did you do and where did you go? How was it?
Pertaining to Yosemite National park...for anyone interested:

It's regarding, "How can we restore the riparian zone in high use areas like campgrounds while still allowing for visitor access?"
