Ah yes, Karen.  CHIGGERS!  They got me a few years ago when I stayed in a newly established tent camp area at an RV Park in Williams.    First time I encountered them in Arizona!    Hadn't been bothered by the ankle-biters since I left Mississippi 30 years ago!  I camped one time at Knickinick and did not enjoy it either.  Just seemed dirty and dusty, AND rocky!  Hey Bob, let's keep Dogtown our little secret, OK?

Me too Bill! This will be the 1st camping for this year so it's always exiting for us..Kninickinick is a pretty lake but is NOT wheelchair friendly- we went last year and I was stuck in the the campsite the whole time! Lava rock type stuff on the roads makes for BAD wheeling! and our friends got eaten alive with chiggers! So I 'll pass on Kninickinick....yeah swimming might not be too fun for the kids, didn't think about the temps. Brrr..

Blue Ridge Reservoir pretty much requires a boat for fishing.  Beautiful lake that sits in a canyon.  Guess you could follow the road to the end and fish by the dam, never tried it so don't know how good they bite down there.   Long Lake is closer to Clints Well than Ashurst/Kninickinick and I believe Game & Fish has been stocking it with trout.   I agree with Robert, too cold for swimming.  Water temp probably around 55 - 60 degrees?!! I'm heading for Dogtown for 5 days, then four days at the Grand Canyon during the week leading up to Memorial Day.  I's SO anxious to get going and get out in the forest!!

I don't know about swimming.  I think the water in all of the lakes up in mountains would  be too cold to swim in, especially for me.

There are two lakes close to where we will be that are good trout fishing lakes.  One is Ashurst Lake and the other is Kinickinick Lake.  They are both pretty good but you do have to drive on a gravel road to get there.  The roads aren't too bad.  Blue Ridge Reservoir is very close to Clints Well and I hear it is good fishing.  I've never been there.

We will be close by on the Stoneman Lake road close to Morman Lake.

Who's going camping over Memorial weeknd? We ARE! Heading to Clints Well area-camping in the forest. Gorgeous area with lots of back roads to explore- alot of them are pretty rough and have to be driven carefully- NOT recommended for a Miada..LOL. We have a van since I'm in a wheelchair but with careful maneuvering I can clear alot of them..hehe..

Thermarest Tech Blanket, Good for Hammock Camping???

The Tech Blanket from Thermarest is a great piece of gear when it comes to hammock camping. The system was meant for the ground but it works great in a hammo...
